Brunswick Community College (BCC) and Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) were selected to be the IDD pilot programs for the NC Community College System (NCCCS) in hopes of helping the other 56 community colleges develop their Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities for Adults (IDD) Programs. The two pilot schools created a tool kit that included best practices and resources to help start, upgrade, and provide additional support.
The purpose of the pilot program was to convene the two partnering colleges to research best practices and conduct a needs assessment to identify effective programming, wraparound services, outreach and marketing, assisted technology, and benefits counseling and to identify community, state, and federal funding resources to facilitate credential attainment, increased employment opportunities, and improve overall engagement in college.
The goal of the pilot program shall be to inform community colleges and address crossâdepartmental supports within the individual community colleges on programs for individuals with IDD.
Serving the IDD population involes developing partnerships to establish and provide comprehensive programming.
